🕑 2.30pm - 3.30pm
👤 Bryan Dawe

Roly and Sonya Parks were created by Bryan Dawe and Jody Seidel, first appearing on 3RRR in Melbourne in 1987.  A number of series followed nationally on ABC radio, including ‘You wouldn’t read about out it’ and ‘On the smell of an oily rag - a European Odyssey’. Recorded on location in Europe, it followed the couple on their rapid European holiday. In 1989, Bryan created ‘Letter from Kalangadoo’. his long running series featuring Roly Parks writing a weekly letter his gay son Gene in London. Pensive, charming, gentle and hilarious, ‘Letter from Kalangadoo’ has remained one of the longest and most loved radio segments on the ABC.

Bryan takes us on Roly and Sonya’s  unique journey from the beginning to present day: how the characters originated, the early days recording at ABC radio, and rare footage from the couple’s travel series in Europe. Bryan will also read a selection from Roly’s ‘Letters from Kalangadoo’. The performance will feature a special guest appearance by actress Jody Seidel discussing her collaboration with Bryan.
