Pre agricultural economies, that relied on various forms of nomadism, have almost disappeared, overwhelmed by the practice and ideologies of agriculture. What do we lose, when we lose those ways of seeing the world, and being in the world? Agriculture was a corner we blocked ourselves into, and then could find no way out of. It’s created all kinds of problems for humanity that we are still trying to solve. In this Regional Centre for Culture festival address, Robyn Davidson talks about travelling and taking risks, about nomadism as both personal choice and investigation of otherness. The metaphor and reality of nomadism might open new pathways for thinking, for challenging bias, for reconfirming humanist values.
