In this very special Festival performance, singer Bente Kahan presents songs and poetry written in Yiddish German Polish. Mordechai Gebirtig was a Yiddish song writer killed in Krakow Ghetto in 1942. Ilse Weber, wrote poetry in theTheresienstadt ghetto, before she was killed in Auschwitz in 1944. Tadeusz RΓ³ΕΌewicz, who died in 2014, first published his poetry in 1938, and was in the Polish underground during the Second World War. Accompanying herself on guitar, Bente's stirring musical interpretations of these unforgettable words are hauntingly beautiful.
