The Idea of Home
There used to be a particular version of Australian history that spanned two centuries and left out many people. Alice Pung’s debut memoir, Unpolished Gem, brilliantly challenged that limited story, telling us about what it was like to grow up Chinese-Australian in a working-class Melbourne suburb. Since then, she has written on everything from the role of grandparents to the damage done by racism. Alice talks to Fiona Parker about her own idea of home, how the places we live and the connections we make shape the people we become.
