Bendigo Writers Festival is a project managed by Bendigo Venues & Events, a service unit of the City of Greater Bendigo with designated curatorial and project management teams.

CECILE SHANAHAN

Cecile is the Curatorial Lead for Bendigo Writers Festival 2024. She has been involved with the organisation and delivery of Bendigo Writers Festival since 2015. During this time she's worked with and interviewed many of Australia's best writers and thinkers.

Cecile is also a freelance editor and book reviewer. Promoting fair and equal access to quality literacy resources for young people, and raising awareness of the benefits of reading for all is at the core of any of Cecile's work. 


michelle symes

Michelle is the Gastronomy Project Officer at City of Greater Bendigo. A marketing specialist by trade, Michelle has a background in Tourism and hospitality having worked for Lake House Daylesford, both on the pans and in the marketing team. Prior to working for the city, Michelle worked with Australia’s largest food relief agency, Foodbank Victoria. 

Food in all its forms is her greatest passion. When not reading food publications and cookbooks, she’s baking up a storm.

Lauren Ellis

Lauren is Curatorial Manager for Bendigo Art Gallery, working with the Gallery’s team to create a dynamic program of exhibitions and programs exploring historic and contemporary art and design. Along with her curatorial and collection management colleagues, Lauren is also responsible for the care and development of Bendigo Art Gallery’s significant collection of art.

In 2022, Lauren had the great pleasure and fun of curating the Gallery's largest exhibition on record, Elvis: Direct from Graceland.
